Dr. Escalera is a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine and received his surgical training at Wayne County General Hospital and the University of Michigan. He is a board certified specialist in General Surgery, a Senior Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and is a member of many national and international professional societies. During his 38-year military career, Brigadier General Escalera served in various positions of leadership including hospital commander, senior flight surgeon and state surgeon for the Army National Guard of Georgia. He has practiced medicine in the southern metropolitan Atlanta area since 1979, and has fulfilled many leadership roles at both Southern Regional Medical Center and Piedmont Henry Hospital. Currently, he limits his practice to the care of post-operative and office surgical patients. Gus enjoys gardening, traveling reading up on the study of economics as well as brushing up on his expert grilling skills.
