GALLBLADDER

Gallbladder

The gallbladder is a small sac that lives underneath the liver. It stores extra bile. Bile is a fluid made by the liver that helps us digest fat.

GALLSTONES can form in the gallbladder. If they start to cause problems such as abdominal pain and nausea then the treatment is to remove the gallbladder. This is done through small incisions called laparoscopic surgery.

DYSFUNCTIONAL GALLBLADDERS (a.k.a. biliary dyskinesia) can cause the same problems as gallstones. It is diagnosed with a study called a HIDA Scan. If the gallbladder is dysfunctional and causing problems, then it should be removed to correct the symptoms.
