Surgery South, P.C. was established by Dr. Escalera in 1979, when he joined the staff at the newly opened Henry General Hospital in Stockbridge, Georgia. In 1994 the practice was reorganized under its current name with a mission of expanding surgical services to the southern half of the metropolitan Atlanta area and provide state of the art general surgery services at Piedmont Henry Hospital.

Surgery South consists of Dr. Brian Myers, Dr. Ahmad Nuriddin, Dr. Jose Fernandez and, Dr. Reema Mallick. We are the only general surgery group practice on the south side of the metropolitan Atlanta area. As a group we always have additional surgical expertise to help with surgery and for intragroup consultations for complex cases and situations. When needed a Surgery South surgeon will be assisted by another Surgery South surgeon who is a board-certified experienced surgeon.

Surgery South surgeons have distinguished themselves by being the first on the southside of Atlanta to perform general surgery laparoscopic procedures such as laparoscopic removal of the gallbladder, laparoscopic reflux (GERD) surgery, laparoscopic colon surgery, video and radio guided surgery of the thyroid, parathyroid, and lymph nodes. Our surgeons also perform minimally invasive breast biopsies and breast conservation surgeries. The practice was the first to perform percutaneous tracheostomies for patients with severe respiratory problems and were instrumental in introducing the technique of percutaneous endoscopic placement of gastric feeding tubes.

Surgery South’s continuing mission is to ensure our patients have the latest, most effective, and minimally invasive procedures available to them. Our surgeons are dedicated to obtaining innovative training to promote excellence, provide the highest standards of clinical expertise, quality and patient safety by attending numerous seminars and continuing medical education courses every year.
